When we talk in terms of women putting on the pads, we usually aren't talking about shoulder pads and knee pads.

But this right here's about the pieces of equipment for football -- tackle football.

I'm getting ready to say something that should make my former UNC women's studies professor Jan Boxill smile a little bit: There ought to be Little League football for girls. We need football for young ladies in middle school and high school. Let's hold off on women's college football for now. But someday -- maybe.

DURHAM -- After his football team claimed a big victory Saturday night at Durham County Memorial Stadium on the strength of a pair of touchdown runs and an interception returned for another touchdown, Coach Tim Holmes gathered his ecstatic squad in the end zone for a postgame pep talk.

After not only congratulating his team, but also cajoling it to work and play even harder in the coming weeks, Holmes broke the huddle as he typically does.

Carolina Phoenix Coach Tim Holmes won 2 awards from the IWFL.  One for Program Sportsmanship and the other for Best New Football Program.  The IWFL chose to recognize him for his incredible performance as a coach and has recognized him as a role model.  The team could not agree more with the League's assessment.  We are truly blessed to have him on our sidelines.  Congratulations, Coach!
