Offensive Assistant: James Brown

Coach James Brown was born and raised in Washington DC, then attended high school in Rocky Mount North Carolina.
Coach Brown played football and ran track at Ohio State University, where he was a part of Big Ten Championships and was blessed to be in two Fiesta Bowls and a Rose Bowl.
Coach Brown is a devoted Christian and looks forward to getting married in October of this year and becoming a proud step father.
James has been coaching for 22 years and loves the responsibility of being a coach. It is his greatest pleasure to see a player develop on and off the field. Brown says "Nothing fills me with pride and emotion, like having a player tell you that you changed his life and helped him or her get on the right track."
As a head coach Brown has won 96 games and lost 27. He has also collected 7 championships. Brown spent the past four years building the Carolina Queens organization, which he took from a team that had won 2 games in 3 years to a playoff team last year.
This year Brown finally gets to coach with Tim Holmes one of his favorite former players. Brown says "Tim was one of the smartest players I have ever coached. He was the field leader, who could take my offensive philosophy onto the field and help his teammates execute it. I have always looked upon Tim like a son and as with any proud papa I look forward to the success we can share during this season."
Brown describes himself as a competition freak! "I love competition. It gets my juices flowing. I hate to lose anything. I expect to win every time I walk on the field. I believe if they are keeping score then the ultimate goal should be to win! No matter how many times I get knocked down if there is breathe left in my body you can bet your house and kids I am going to get back up and continue the fight."

instead where there is no path and leave a trail." Ralph Waldo
Emerson
Coach Brown's advice to anyone "...Do your best, let God do the rest and pray always!....."
Defense/Linebacker Coach: Marilyn "Grandma" Williams

Marilyn "Grandma 55" Williams is a native of Winston-Salem, NC. She
played neighborhood football until her 3 children ByBy(daughter), Bama
and Mingo(son's) were born. One summer during an during a back from
softball, she played for several weekends until she sent 3 ladies to
the ER. No pads just the love of the game. Then in 2000 she got the
chance to play for the Carolina Cougars as the starting Middle
linebacker. She was given the nickname "Grandma" because she was the
oldest on the team at age 45. After 3 seasons the team folded and she
thought that was the end.
When 2005 arrive an opportunity again knocked on her door. She became co-owner.It was a shakey start but out the ashes of doubt came "The Carolina Phoenix." She again won the position of starting Middle Linebacker. She retired in 2008 due to a career ending neck surgery. And when asked if it was football related she will tell you "what about those who have the surgery and never played football." She still gets hyped about the game even from the sideline.
She has 5 grandkids Joshua, Brianna, Isaiah, Brandolyn and Cam. All of her children have seen her play and all of the grands except Cam. But he knows about her team and that she played football. That is her only regret other than not being able to play now.
Her favorite saying is "We have to take each game cause they ain't gonna give it to us.Gotta get the Ring"
My Phoenix Family is my Family! SISTERHOOD Always!!!!

Defense/Defensive Back Coach: Leigh Holmes

Played football in a field at Cal State LA with the likes of actor Anthony Anderson and Frederico Garcia while in attending the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. She danced throughout college. She was an avid thespian only until she met Head Coach Tim Holmes. He explained football like a dance and she was hooked. She really came to life when she was allowed to contribute to the team as a linebacker during the 2008 season. "Hitting was amazing, There was a chill that went all through me...yada, yada,.yada" says Leigh.
A natural leader (she likes to tell people what to do), she began coaching the defensive backs in 2009. They were one of the strongest units on the team that year. Coach Tim Holmes, afraid of her being idle and distracting on the sideline, decided to completely fill her time by adding the Special Team to her duties. She is excited about the challenge and says, "Bring It On!"
In 2009, she began Crossfit training, but a bout of bursitis cut that short. Now she just talks about the benefit of Crossfit training and has been influential in getting other members of the team to do it. When she loses some weight, she plans on doing "Insanity" by Shaun T! Watch out der now!
Interesting fact: Leigh performed on "Romper Room" when she was 14 years old.
Her favorite quote is "At the Moment of Commitment, the Universe Conspires to Assist You"
Leigh holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Management and a Master of Management degree with an emphasis in Public Administration. She loves spending time with family and friends. She loves being a part of the Phoenix Family. Most of all, she is madly in love with her husband of 20 years.
